Dr. Mark Austin is a distinguished figure in the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, endurance sports, and humanitarian service. Academic Excellence: Dr. Austin’s educational foundation was laid at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, where he earned his undergraduate degree. His dedication to academia was evident as he excelled as a Division 1 wrestler during his time there. In 1997, he was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. His academic journey continued with honors as he graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry in 2001.

A Quest for Mastery: Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and a commitment to honing his craft, Dr. Austin pursued advanced training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Here, he embarked on a rigorous two-year General Practice Residency program, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Unfazed by the challenges of his demanding field, he extended his training with a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at MUSC, where he solidified his expertise in intricate surgical procedures.

Leadership and Expertise: The pinnacle of Dr. Austin’s professional journey was his esteemed tenure at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he assumed the role of Senior Attending in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Facial Trauma. His leadership and clinical acumen shone brightly as he navigated complex surgical cases, showcased his proficiency, and earned the respect of colleagues and patients alike.

A Heart for Humanity: Beyond his clinical pursuits, Dr. Austin’s dedication to humanitarian causes further illuminates his character. He has successfully completed 4 Full Ironman races and 20 Half Ironman races, earning him the title of Ironman All World Athlete from 2013 to 2017.
